Provincials vs Hurricane Earl
Based on the latest Hurricane Earl update, Baseball Nova Scotia will be postponing all Provincial tournaments that were scheduled for this weekend. All tournaments will be held next weekend. Poor weather will prevent any games from being played this Saturday & fields will most likely be unavailable for the majority of the day on Sunday. We have received and continue to receive calls/emails from worried parents, coaches and hosts about this Hurricane. It's not just the drenching rain expected that is causing the tournament to be postponed.
There are a lot of factors that come into play when making this decision at this time:
- Some hotels are asking for 48 hour cancellation notice (Parents need to notify today)
- Families want to be at their own homes during this hurricane in case they have damages to their houses.
- The costs of teams attempting to do this all over next weekend if we are rained out.
- Possible long-term power outages
Thank you for your cooperation!
Unforgettable Championship Final!
For anyone involved in the Canadian Senior Baseball Championship, the gold medal game, featuring the Burnaby Bulldogs from B.C. and the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry, provided everything anyone would want, except one thing – victory for both teams! That’s how great it really was.Kevin Atkinson launched a no-doubt home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the 4th inning to provide the Bulldogs with the only run Steve McCrea needed in a 1-0 victory over the host team on Sun. evening. Merek Deska drew nothing but rave reviews from the 3,200 fans in attendance matching McCrea’s 3-hit performance, while striking out 10 batters.
The score was proof of one thing – these two teams are excellent clubs that left with gold and silver, but also with respect for each other’s ability.
And the fans left with proof too, that this indeed was the best national tournament ever. They, like the Bulldogs and the Dry, were winners too!
